About Natrium
Natrium is proud to offer halotherapy to Columbus, Ohio. While halotherapy has been around for years, it is still relatively new to the United States. We have created a beach-like atmosphere where you can lounge in a zero gravity chair while listening to relaxing sounds. The floor is covered with 3 inches of Himalayan sea salt and the room is dimly lit to help you relax, meditate, or sleep. Blankets are provided if you would like one and we kindly ask you to bring a clean pair of white socks for the salt room. If you forget socks, we will have some on hand for you to borrow.
Halotherapy (halo is the Greek word for salt) is a 100% natural, safe, and drug- free form of treatment for respiratory ailments, skin conditions, and other mental health issues. Salt therapy is a method of inhaling pure, dry, micronized salt air particles dispersed into the air from a halogenerator. These particles reach the deepest area of the lungs absorbing bacteria and pollutants and providing an anti-inflammatory and cleansing effect. This process supports and strengthens the body’s immune system by eliminating pathogens and allergens that are trapped within the mucus lining of the respiratory system. In the 1840s, Dr. Feliks Boczkowski, a Polish doctor who was treating miners, started to study salt’s medicinal properties. He had noticed that while coal miners suffered from all kinds of respiratory problems, salt miners rarely complained of health issues let alone breathing problems. While there have been numerous clinical studies touting its effectiveness, it is relatively unknown in the United States. We caution that this treatment is to help with general wellness and not to take the place of your medical doctor. Salt is known to be:
- Anti-bacterial
- Mucolytic (loosens mucus & phlegm)
- Anti-inflammatory
Neti pots have become popular for sinus issues, but dry aerosol allows the salt particles to penetrate deep into the lungs to help clear the airways. More than 40 years of research, conducted around the world, shows that treatment with Halotherapy has beneficial effects for patients with:
- Asthma
- Allergies
- Hay fever
- COPD
- Emphysema
- Sinusitis
- Chronic bronchitis
- Cystic fibrosis
- Ear infections
- Smoker’s cough
- Skin conditions such as: psoriasis, acne, dermatitis, eczema
- Depression
- Seasonal affective disorder
- Stress
*Efficacy is estimated up to 98% for some conditions according to the clinical study "Halotherapy for Treatment of Respiratory Diseases,” published in the Journal of Aerosol Medicine Volume 8, Number 3, 1995.
